[COMMENTARY]
Born in 1938, Dang Nhat Minh is one of the most important talents in the Vietnamese film world.
Nham, a seventeen years old boy who lives in a village in the countryside of northern Vietnam, is without a father, and his brother lives far away from the village because of his work. That leaves Nham the only male member in a household that includes his mother, his younger sister, and his sister-in-law, Ngu. She is lonely; she misses her husband; she has come to care for Nham as much more than a family.
One day, a beautiful, citified woman, Quyen, returns to the village for a visit. Meeting her elicits in Nham a feeling he has never known in his life. Ngu is very frustrated that Nham and Quyen are together, but she keeps on working in silent. She puts up with loneliness until it becomes unbearable. When Nham sees the tears in her eyes, something inside him changes. The adolescent is becoming a young man.
