I believe that Sundance/NHK International Filmmakers Award is a very important program for the international cinema in supporting new artists, whoever they may be. It is important, because new visions created by new talents give us a constant renewal of new ways to look at life, and at the world. That is what is great about art.

AIMS AND HISTORY
The Sundance/NHK International Filmmakers Award was first established in 1995 by NHK and the Sundance Institute to honor and support emerging filmmakers with their next screenplay - one each from the United States, Japan, Latin America and Europe -who possess the originality, talent, and vision to be celebrated as we look into the future of international cinema. Sundance Institute, founded by Robert Redford, is a non-profit organization and is currently engaged in a range of programs that include support for independent writers and filmmakers.

AWARD
Each filmmaker is selected on the strength of their next scripts and their past work (features, shorts, music videos, TV ads., etc.)
The award includes a US$ 10,000 cash prize as well as a guarantee by NHK to purchase Japanese TV broadcasting rights upon completion of their films. Each winner will be invited to attend the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
* Submissions are by recommendation only for Europe, Latin America and U.S.A.
* Submissions for Japan category will close on July 1, 2005.
