When Bryan's possessions arrive from the UK he just cannot get rid of anything - so much stuff with precious memories! While having his living room covered in moving boxes is an annoyance for Tsuneo, it also pushes him to tackle some tidying up he has been avoiding since the death of his wife. How do you tidy up, the Japanese way?
"Take each item in one's hand and ask, "Does this spark joy?"" ―Marie Kondo
Tidying-up seems to be an industry in its own right in Japan. If you head to an 100-yen store, there will be a whole host of items that will help you keep your house in order and declutter, whether it be foldable hangers, hooks to hang an ironing board in a cover or cute clips to keep wires out of the way. I'm not sure if buying more things to keep your house tidy is what Kon Mari had in mind with her spark method... but it works in my house!
