Serving society by making NHK’s technologies available for many uses

Outline

NHK Engineering Systems, Inc. promotes NHK’s patents and other technical expertise and engages in R&D aimed at sharing the benefits of broadcast technologies with the general public. Our exhibit includes some of NHK’s patented and ongoing research that are open to wider application.

・8K acoustically transparent projection screen for 8K audio editing studios and small-scale theaters
・8K SHV application that could revolutionize medical technology

●Technologies for wider application

・Whole-sky live video virtual studio system based on hybrid sensors
・MIMO*1-OFDM*2 equalizer for multipath channels with delays in excess of GI*3
・Hybridcast app tester that uses commercially available receivers to check apps performance
・Speech manipulation and reproduction technology to facilitate easier and more convenient speech communication

NHK’s technologies are open for professional and consumer applications. We offer consultations regarding licensing and technical expertise.

*1 MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output): a wireless transmission method using multiple antennas on the transmitting and receiving ends.
*2 OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing): a method used in digital transmissions wherein subcarriers are “orthogonal” to each other (i.e.,
  crosstalk between subcarriers is eliminated).
*3 GI (guard interval): The interval placed between symbols to prevent delayed signals from interfering with each other.
