Image Acquisition System Using River Cameras
~Capturing changes in rivers by stitching together still public images released on the Internet~

NHK developed this system to automatically create videos by regularly downloading and stitching together still images of rivers taken by surveillance cameras managed by municipalities and published on the Internet. This system promises to contribute to disaster mitigation reporting, which protects lives and livelihoods in local communities, by providing easy-to-understand information such as changes in river levels.

During heavy rains that hit southwestern and central Japan in July 2020, NHK broadcast videos of rivers in Kagoshima by automatically creating them from still images taken by the prefecture’s river surveillance cameras.
