Lab Talk
Tailoring Light Waves: Future 3D imaging technologies

NOBUKAWA Teruyoshi
Advanced Functional Devices Research Division

3D video can be used to create extremely immersive and realistic content. In this Lab Talk, we combine digital technologies with analog light-wave technologies to capture and display high-definition 3D video. In particular, we describe a light-phase detection technology used in the Computational Photography exhibit, and introduce basic research initiatives at NHK STRL to create future 3D image-capture technologies.

A word from our presenter

Do you remember hearing the word “phase” in physics class? I suppose many of you will recoil from such a word, but there are some fascinating media possibilities that open up through use of phase information. Don’t hesitate to enjoy the fun!
