1. Stay away from hanging objects.
2. Remain calm and follow instruction from staff.
3. If you feel a jolt, move to an open space.
☑ Move away from suspended objects. Use baggage to protect your head.
☑ Lay suitcases on their side so they don't move. Keep clear of carts.
During the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, a suspended ceiling at Ibaraki Airport collapsed.
☑ The buildings can withstand an upper 6 earthquake on the Japanese seismic intensity scale.
☑ Rushing for exits is dangerous. Wait for the shaking to stop.
☑ An announcement about the situation in the airport will be made in Japanese, then English.
The airport has backup power for outages.
☑ In the event of falling objects or fire, you may have to evacuate outside upon guidance from staff.
☑ Again, follow guidance from staff.
