Hot weather seen across Japan

People celebrating the spring holidays in Japan were feeling the heat on Saturday. Temperatures in many places marked daytime highs of 25 degrees Celsius or higher.

Numerous events are being held to coincide with the holidays during the fine weather.

In a town in Kochi Prefecture, paper carp streamers were seen in the Niyodo River. They are part of the celebration for Children's Day on May 5.

In some places, the mercury reached 30 degrees Celsius or more.

Even higher temperatures are expected on Sunday. Weather officials warn that people are at risk of heatstroke as they have yet to get used to the heat. They are urging people to take precautions, such as drinking water frequently.
