Japan Prize 2022 Awards Ceremony (online only)

Held online, this year’s Awards Ceremony was attended by Her Imperial Highness the Crown Princess for the first time in three years, and final selection jurors from 12 countries around the world also participated from the venue in Harajuku, Tokyo. The ten winning works/proposals in the Audiovisual Works and Proposal Pitch were announced at the Ceremony venue as finalists, preliminary selection jurors, and other participants from around the world watched online. Following on from last year, masters of ceremonies were jointly performed by media personality Harry Sugiyama and NHK announcer Nakayama Kana. As the final selection jurors announced the prize winners and made their remarks from the ceremony venue, the winners expressed their joy and appreciation online. Harry also asked the producers various questions about their thoughts and feelings regarding their respective projects as well as what they hoped to achieve through their work.

Nakayama presents NHK’s midday news on weekends and public holidays; hosts the talk show “Heart Net TV #RONAN [Living with Hearing Impairment]”, and narrates the nature program, “Darwin’s Amazing Animals”. Working on the frontlines of news reporting, she has come in contact with various international movements, deepening her insight. In her previous position at NHK Hiroshima Station, she produced a radio program on topics related to the atomic bombing for which she received numerous awards both in Japan and overseas.
