“Life”—a proposal about how a young man in Mexico wants to save the young people in his community from the terrible darkness of suicidal thoughts.
If suicide had a shape, a sound or a colour or a beat, what would it be?
Eric Gonzales hopes that his community art event will help suicidal young people express themselves through the medium of art and hopefully, find a road out of that darkness.
We don’t know how many lives Eric Gonzales can change, but one life lost to suicide is one life too many. One life saved from suicide is many lives changed.
This singularity of his mission—just like that of the JAPAN PRIZE to improve the future lives of people through educational media—is very much needed in this strange, confusing, beautiful and frightening world we live in.

“LIFE” is a Youth-Documentary that evidences the problem of suicide among young people in the indigenous communities in Mexico. Erik is thinking to involve young people into an art movement. Young people, through artistic expressions, have the opportunity to recognize their strength and clarify who they want to become.
The objective is to generate impact at the community level, so that parents and authorities strive to listen and understand their reality and take their needs into account.
It is a great honor to receive the Hoso Bunka Foundation Prize. In the name of our organization Vientos Culturales, we dedicate this prize to the youth of San Andrés Larrainzar who stand for all the indigenous communities of Mexico and also to the wonderful persons who struggle every day to get their real voices heard, and to the ones who believe in in the power of media for change.
