Twelve jurors from twelve countries gathered in Tokyo. They were introduced to each other and had an orientation regarding the judging schedule, criteria, etc.
In the evening, the President of NHK hosted the opening reception and welcomed the jurors from around the world. He thanked them for making time in their busy schedules to accept the difficult demands the contest would make of them.

The judging began. There were 45 finalists from among 293 entries in the Audiovisual Division. The prize winners would be selected from them.
On the second and third days, the jurors screened and discussed the entries and narrowed down the nominees in the Pre-school, Primary, Youth and Lifelong Learning Categories.
The jurors screened the entry forms and contents such as websites, games and apps in the Creative Frontier Category.
Final Judging Session
The finalists in the Creative Frontier Category did final presentations and held a Q&A session for the jurors, who then held a discussion in a separate room to determine the best work in the category. Next came the Special Prize winners and, finally, the Grand-Prix winner was determined.

Five finalists had been selected in the preliminary selection from among 46 proposals in the TV Proposal Division. Those five entrants were invited to Japan to attend a preparatory workshop for the final presentation session. After the Q&A session, the jurors discussed the entries and chose the best proposal and excellent proposal prize winners.

Apart from the judging, other events were held during the JAPAN PRIZE in which the delegates from all over the world participated. A Delegates’ Lounge was available for them.
The finalists in the Audiovisual Division introduced their nominated works and answered questions from the audience at the Finalist Works Screening sessions held at NHK Fureai Hall.

The International Producer’s Conference for Educational Media (IPCEM) offered three sessions where international experts in educational content talked about the latest global trends.

Announcement of the Winners
First, the best works in the four categories in the Audiovisual Division. Tensions were growing as the evening Awards Ceremony approached.
In the presence of His Highness the Crown Prince, representatives from ministries and other awarded organizations presented trophies to winners at the Awards Ceremony.

The 50th anniversary special event

The 50th anniversary special event “U18 – Our future, students meet with Joichi Ito, MIT Media Lab Director, to demonstrate Future Learning” was held at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation .

The 50th anniversary special symposium II – The Role of Media for Inter-Cultural Understanding “How the Media Meets the World Today” was organized by Sophia University and NHK with special cooperation by the UN Information Center. The Grand Prix Japan Prize winner and the Best Proposal Winner from 2014 were invited as panelists.
