Although the main character of this film encounters many challenges in his daily life he manages them with humor and courage. This well-constructed story provides insight into the strong support of an extraordinary father and the friendship of a young man’s classmates. Thanks to a sensible and never voyeuristic usage of family archives and photographs, we are able to witness crucial moments in the protagonist’s development throughout childhood, and we get a good understanding of the sufferance caused by his disability, as well as the motivations and skills that helped him to maintain a positive outlook. The way to embrace imperfection showcases an important topic for Taiwan that can also inspire audiences on a global scale. Lin Yen-liang’s positivity positions him as a role model for all of us trying to embrace our imperfections.
