Winning international awards is a big pat on our backs as documentary producers. But the fulfilment of our job as journalists comes from the fact that many lives have changed through our documentaries. After airing Reel Time’s episode Nebulizer, a lot of viewers were inspired by Maribel’s story. They sent different kinds of assistance to Maribel and her kids. Some donated school supplies. A company gave her a tricycle, which she can use to bring her daughters to school. Another viewer sent her cash, which she used to start a small retail shop in front of their house. Maribel and her family have also transferred to a more decent house, in a relocation site facilitated by the local government for families who used to live along the river banks. She and her daughters still go to school and continue to pursue their dreams. We are deeply humbled and honoured by this recognition from the JAPAN PRIZE. The Maeda Award is a testament to the hard work, talent, and passion of the people behind Reel Time in producing stories that would inspire and make an impact.
