Producer's comments
Ms. Pang Chi-man, Producer, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK)
In Hong Kong, “Preschool - Learn to Fly” is the only program specially designed for preschool children. We treasure the opportunity of producing it and invited 9 experts from professional fields of childcare and child education as program advisors. We studied different educations models such as the Maria Montessori, the Reggio Emilia, and other project approach methods in order to decide a format that would be helpful and interesting to our target audience.
We learnt from experience and studies that children like watching children when they keep an eye on TV. We chose six child artists through an open recruitment and scanned 1,800 child candidates. This is important because the child artists would be the live model for children audience.
We believed children love stories and music. For music we composed new songs and designed movements for classical music. For stories, we created a happy and intimate atmosphere for story time. And we invited different characters, say, uncle, mother, father, brother, sister and even the child, to tell stories. With all these set up, we hope that children would enjoy the accompanying and the telling of stories.
It is very encouraging that we won one of the prizes from Japan Prize, for the program with heart and blood we put in, is recognized as a fine and effective one. Thank you once again.
