Route 349, the longest national highway running along Fukushima prefecture’s south and north. It’s the road of livelihood for those living along it. In this edition of “Here is fortune fMAP”, we traverse the north to south of Route 349 in search of hidden “fortune.” In the village where the partially-dried Japanese “Anpo” persimmon originated, comes a 100 year story that is truly encased in amber, “I want to hold on to my hometown.” A rare, reddish brown hot spring run by an eternally cheerful proprietor that has become a local oasis. A small astronomical observatory located in a small village under a starry sky, that’s said to be in the top three in all of Japan. We unmask the true faces of Fukushima on our trip along National Highway Route 349.
