Hi-Vision PDP is spreading
Hi-Vision plasma TV sets have been developed and materialized through the efforts of the Hi-Vision PDP (Plasma Display Panel) Joint Development Consortium* and related manufactures.
The Hi-Vision TV sets are very thin at less than 10 cm, making it possible to enjoy impressive Hi-Vision images on a large screen with the receiver still occupying less space than a conventional TV set. Hi-Vision PDPs are capable of showing higher quality pictures, which combine images, text and graphics for easy viewing.
Hi-Vision PDPs are expected to diffuse widely in the home as wall-mounted televisions
Hi-Vision PDP with a larger screen
Large screens are easy to make because of their comparatively simple structure and the use of special large-area processing methods. 50-inch Hi-Vision plasma TV sets have already been marketed.
Hi-Vision PDP with a sharper image
In order to reproduce Hi-Vision images in crisp detail on the PDP, a
smaller dot size is used for the PDP screen; the number of pixels is increased. Various new signal processing and driving circuit technologies have been developed to reproduce sharper images.
*The consortium was established in 1994 by NHK and 26 related makers. The
council first developed a Hi-Vision plasma TV in time for the Nagano Winter Olympics. It will continue its efforts to improve the performance and further promote the diffusion of this new type of television.
