Increasing the pixel count of 3D image

We are researching integral three-dimensional (3D) television systems to realize future 3D TV that supports natural viewing without wearing special glasses. As one technique for improving the quality of 3D images, we are exhibiting a technique that implements 3D image with a greater number of pixels by combining the multiple images of a direct-view display panel.

Features

Proposed method for combining multiple 3D images continuously
With the aim of increasing the number of pixels in integral 3D images, we have proposed a method for combining the independent multiple images of a direct-view display panel continuously.
Development of a high-performance multi-image combining optical system
We have designed a new thin multi-image combining optical system that has a simple lens configuration and does not require a diffuser, and we have made a prototype display device based on this design. We were able to increase the number of pixels in the 3D image to about four times that in the case where images were not combined.

Future plans

We are conducting research aimed at implementing a practical integral 3D television for home viewing, and we are researching the improvement of the 3D image quality.
