UHDTV Camera for HDR/SDR Simultaneous Production and Improvement of Color Reproduction
Effective production and better color reproduction
Outline
We have developed a simultaneous production camera that can simultaneously output video signals with high dynamic range (HDR) and standard dynamic range (SDR). We have also developed a technique that reproduces more natural images when shooting subjects with highly saturated colors.

Features
- Simultaneous capture of HDR and SDR video
- In our method, while capturing HDR video by the normal iris operation, an electronic iris mounted in the camera lens is operated so that the brightness can be adjusted for the SDR signal. In this way, it is possible to obtain the optimal video signal levels for each output with a single camera, thereby making it easy to work on HDR/SDR program productions simultaneously.
- Improved color reproduction
- When shooting subjects with highly saturated colors, such as those illuminated by monochromatic LEDs, the video signal can sometimes become saturated, resulting in a loss of color gradation. We have developed a color correction method with a low computational cost that reduces the saturation at higher RGB signal levels. By this method, we can also improve the color reproduction when converting from HDR to SDR.
Future plans
We will conduct experiments to verify the effectiveness of this technique, and we aim to introduce this technology into real operational cameras.
