Connected One-Seg Re-transmission System
  Background and Purpose
One-Seg service allows users to view digital terrestrial broadcasting outdoors or in moving vehicles on their mobile receivers. However, this service cannot be received where radio-waves from transmitting stations do not directly reach or where they have weak signal strengths, such as in underground shopping arcades or in the shadows of buildings. In such places, equipment must be installed to re-transmit One-Seg signals.
We developed a "connected One-Seg re-transmission system" that extracts One-Seg signals from the digital terrestrial broadcast-waves received from individual broadcasters and combines them into a single signal for re-transmission over a channel that is different from any of the receiving channels.
  Features
  • Re-transmission of just the One-Seg signals lowers the transmitting power in comparison with re-transmitting all digital terrestrial broadcast-waves without processing.
  • The use of a different channel from the receiving channels means there is no interference.
  • A maximum of thirteen One-Seg signals can be re-transmitted. It will be possible to offer community broadcasting localized to a particular area for re-transmission, in addition to One-Seg services from every broadcaster.
  Future Work
Verification experiments will be conducted to confirm the system's effectiveness.
