Digital terrestrial broadcasting started in Tokyo , Osaka , and Nagoya in December 2003, and it has just begun in Kyoto , Nara , Shiga, and Mie in April 2005. It is scheduled to begin in Wakayama and Shizuoka in June, and in the six prefectures in the Tohoku region in December. By the end of 2005, it will be reaching approximately 27 million households, and by the end of 2006, it will be servicing all of the prefectural capitals. It is currently being received by 8 million households across the country.
Digital broadcasting offers wide-screen, HDTV video, with its enhanced sensation of reality and 5.1 channel surround sound, together with rich data broadcasting services. This exhibit introduces the features and attractions of digital terrestrial and satellite broadcasting and describes the various reception options. |
