To investigate the dependence of vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) emission from exited Xe*(1s4)atoms and Xe2*dimers on gas pressure in a small discharge cell, we constructed anexperimental panel with a horizontal cell pitch of less than half the value of a current AC-PDP.The panel was filled with a mixture of Ne and Xe (5%), and the total gas pressure wasincreased from 40 kPa to 93 kPa. The spatiotemporal behavior of Xe*(1s5), which affected theVUV band emission, was measured by microscopic laser absorption spectroscopy. The exitedXe*(1s5) atoms transited to Xe2*dimers in a short time, thus stronger VUV emissions wereestimated at higher gas pressure. |
