What is MPF? MPF(Metadata Production Framework) specifies the constituent elements of metadata production systems, a metadata format, and an application programming interface (API) for working with them, thus providing a common platform on which various organizations can cooperate in the research and development of metadata production technology.  Framework concept The processing function such as extraction and editing functions and storage function, that are essential to producing metadata are modularized and a metadata format for data exchange by modules and an interface for working with combinations of modules is defined, making it possible to implement expandable and flexible metadata production systems.  A metadata model that is a subset of MPEG-7 The metadata model defined by the MPF employs a subset of the MPEG-7 international standard. MPEG-7 is a complex specification designed for generality, so it is difficult to use. MPF defines limited schema for a restricted field of use and restricts their application to define a metadata model for which a uniform structure can be assumed.
