The number of TV receiving contracts exceeded 10 million in 1962. Transmission of TV broadcasting to the remote regions of Japan required continuous expansion of the relay station network. Presently there are over 3,400 relay stations alone for General TV channels. Problems with picture clarity in remote and mountainous areas could be dealt with by the installation of common reception facilities employing cable networks.
