The United States had been leading in the research of color TV systems. While color TV broadcasting in the United States started in 1951, using the CBS system, it was interrupted less than a year later. The National Television System Committee (NTSC) adopted the NTSC system in 1953. Japan started its research on color television at STRL in 1950.
