A Life-threatening experiment - the man who showed that lightening is electricity

Just before Gennai Hiraga invented the Erekiteru in Japan, on the other side of the Pacific in America, Benjamin Franklin, one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence and a physicist, proved that lightning is electricity by flying a kite during a lightning storm. At the time, checking for electricity was done with a touch of a hand, so this was truly a life-threatening experiment. This experiment also contributed to the development of the lightning rod.
