NHK Learning Fair
Each year from October to November, NHK Learning Fair events are held around the NHK Broadcasting Center (Shibuya, Tokyo).  Performers from NHK Educational Television and popular characters from children’s programs appear on stage, and exhibits and presentations on new broadcast technology, including the NHK Digital Curriculum, share in the schedule of open events in and around the NHK Hall.  A special week of intensive educational program broadcasting, the Japan Prize International Educational Program Contest, and the Asian Educational Producers’ Conference are some of the initiatives integrated into this comprehensive education-oriented event.
The Japan Prize
NHK established the Japanese Prize in 1965 as an international educational program contest.  Since then the Japanese Prize has contributed to the development of educational broadcasts throughout the world, serving to cultivate better understanding between nations.  The Japan Prize, the catalyst for holding the NHK Learning Fair, and provides for interchange among program producers throughout the world as well as providing an opportunity to exchange information on leading edge education programs and digital teaching material.
The ABU Asia-Pacific Broadcast Union Voyage to the Future
Protecting the earth is the universal topic of mankind for the 21st century. The “Voyage to the Future" is a project to consider the future of the environment as children of Asian countries take a journey together. Twenty-three children from seven Asian broadcasting stations gathered on the Island of Borneo for the "ABU Voyage to the Future" that began again in 2005 to study tropical rain forest preservation. NHK also broadcast numerous special programs concerning that. “Desert” in 2007, and “Coral sea” in 2009.
You take the lead! The NHK Broadcasting Experience Club
Since April of 2000 NHK is running a nationwide program called “You take the lead! The NHK Broadcasting Experience Club” enabling elementary school students (mostly fifth and sixth graders) to enjoyably learn about different jobs at a broadcasting station and what roles they fulfill.  During this event, children themselves report on familiar topics and put a news program together.  You may participate at a NHK in the vicinity; please apply in class units.
NHK Award: All-Japan Lower Secondary Broadcasting Contest
This contest was organized to foster the well-nourished human nature of lower secondary students growing up in our information society and to enhance lower secondary school campus broadcasting activities.  Broadcast productions compete in the four categories of television programs, radio programs, announcements and recitations.
NHK Award: All-Japan Upper Secondary Broadcasting Contest
This contest was organized to promote the enrichment of school broadcasting activities, particular to upper secondary schools, with the hope that the human nature of contemporary upper secondary school students might be bountifully nurtured and that these young people might develop long-term prospects as they grow into adulthood.  The final competition is held at the NHK Hall in July.
NHK All-Japan School Music Competition
This competition began in 1932 to promote children’s "interest in and regard for songs"and to support Japanese music education.  Seventy years have passed since that time.  Many fans of choral music have been cultivated and the standard of performance has excelled to become the best in the world.  Presently beautiful singing voices resound in more than 2000 elementary, lower and upper secondary schools around the entire country.
Lower and Upper Secondary School Student Meeting
- “An Illustrated Guide to Careers for Young People”-
In this event lower and upper secondary school students think together about the meaning of "the concept of work." In addition to explaining their thoughts on their jobs and views of occupations, the young people and guests appearing in the event also exchange opinions with participants, thus the event becomes an opportunity for young people to move one step closer to their futures.
NHK All-Japan Haiku and Tanka Poetry Contest
Students below the lower secondary level submit tens of thousands of haiku and tanka poetry entries each year to the Junior Section of the Haiku and Tanka Poetry Contest sponsored by NHK and NHK Academy of Distance Learning.
Idea Showdown: All-Japan Technical College Robot Contest
This educational event allows young people, unrestricted by preconceived ideas, to "think with their own heads and build a robot with their own hands”, to experience something interesting, to learn first hand the importance of conceptualization, and to share with the nation something splendid they’ve made.  The technical college students from around the country, using unrestrained ideas in accordance with the defined competition theme to produce a robot, to pit their conceptualization and creative powers against rivals in an annual competitive exhibition.
NHK University Robocon
Teams selected from universities throughout the nation freely stretch their imaginations to compete to build a robot conforming to competition specifications.  The champion team of this contest participates in the ABU Robocon (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Robot Contest) as the Japanese representative team.
ABU-Asia Pacific Robot Contest
Selected representative student teams from Pacific region nations make the best use of their imaginations, skill and creativity to address a specified contest task as they build a robot to compete in this international ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcast Union) educational event.
