Many A-bomb victims do not now live in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. About 82,000 presently reside in other parts of Japan. Through the postwar years, such victims have borne their psychological and physical pain in private, hiding their tragic background from people around them and suffering from both sickness and prejudice. A questionnaire performed by NHK led to interviews with victims far from the places of the bombings who have long felt neglected. They include a woman who had long hesitated to reveal her background as a bomb victim and a man, with no one to consult, who harbored fears about passing on health damage to his children.
