The Concept of this series:
It is 60 years since the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since then NHK has produced a number of programs on this theme and preserved them in its archives. Some of the most representative ones have been picked out for re-editing to make a three-part series for reviewing the devastation caused by the atomic bombing. The series also incorporates new elements such as the current thoughts of survivors in order to emphasize the importance of continuing to advocate peace.

Part 1:
What actually happened at the epicentre immediately after the atomic bombing? The horrific scenes of devastation have been passed down to us in the form of photographs, though limited in number, reports of witnesses, and pictures drawn by them. These materials provide the basis for Part I of the series which is intended to unveil truths about the dropping of A-bomb and its aftermath.
