A voluntary organization, Hiroshima o Katarukai, (Society of Tellers of the Hiroshima Story), was being disbanded in March, 2001 after 16 years of activity. The society had created numerous opportunities for a combined total of about 450,000 students on excursion to Hiroshima to hear about the A-bomb tragedy in the city from survivors. The tellers, however, were growing old, and the attitudes of the young had also changed. Though advanced in age, the tellers remained eager to convey the horror of the bombing to future generations, but the young often did not want to hear. The program describes the difficulty of passing on the memories and the sorrow of the tellers as their organization closes down.
