This pamphlet outlines the Peace Archives
and lists the titles etc. of programs available for public viewing
and listening at Program Library terminals nationwide.
The Peace Archives at the Program Library
makes past NHK programs on the atomic bombings and peace issues
available for viewing and listening by the general public. This
booklet presents a brief chronology of the events of the times when
the programs were produced to provide users with a general historical
overview. This is not, however, intended to serve as a complete
record. For further details, the user is recommended to refer to
The History of Broadcasting in the 20th Century.
The NHK Peace Archives Editing Committee
was establised within the NHK Multimedia Department Archives Section
and consists of members from that section."A Brief Chronology
of Programs on the Atomic Bombings and Peace Issues" was written
by Tatsuhito Nagaya (former Executive Researcher, NHK Broadcasting
Culture Research Institute), and the articles related to the Archives
and public program introductions were written by the NHK Peace Archives
Executive Office.
In compiling this booklet, we drew considerably
from The History of Broadcasting in the 20th Century and The 60-Year
History of NHK Hiroshima Station. Other valuable suggestions and
information were provided by Mr. Hirokazu Kawara(executive producer
of NHK Specials), Mr. Masami Ogahara (producer in charge of NHK
Special: The Earth in the Wake of Nuclear Wars, former director
of book publishing at NHK Shuppan and editor of How Was Hiroshima
Depicted? - Reporting of the A-bombing by NHK and the Chugoku Shimbun),
and articles by Mr.Masaharu Koike and others in The Hoso-Bunka journal
of August 1997. We also made use of contemporary written and other
materials left by the program makers.
