There are 3 points in these new strategies against Food Allergies.

It's known that about 10% of babies have some food allergy. Some babies get cured naturally but some infants and children don't.
Recent research indicates new strategies for an effective cure. It's different from our common knowledge. These new strategies are the following:

  • Introduction to baby food at an early age.
  • Don't eliminate food excessively.
  • Understand the relationship between atopic eczema and allergies.

Introduction to baby food at an early age.

At the introduction of baby food, there was a tendency in the past not to expose an infant to food which could trigger allergic reactions.
Nowadays, there is no evidence that waiting until the baby is older prevents food allergy.
Reports says that introduction of various food at an early age might not develop allergic reactions. At an early age, if no allergic reactions occur, it's better to enlarge the variety of food. If the infant has already developed skin problems such as rash or atopic dermatitis, baby food can cause allergic reactions. We recommend you in this case to introduce an infinite quantity of baby food. Get medical advice if needed.

Do not eliminate too much food.
When food allergy occurs, it's important to eliminate the food causing the reaction.
As the baby's daily diet should include a variety of foods, it's important to eliminate only a minimum of food. It's quite frequent that worried parents eliminate all the food that the baby can eat. An allergen test could be done in this case.
Food allergies could be detected by a blood test. It consists of finding the antibodies of each food.
Even if the blood test is positive, it doesn't mean that the baby is 100% allergic to the food.

Oral food challenge test.

To undertake the avoidance of certain food, it is recommended to have an oral food challenge test. This test consists of tasting the allergen and to see the reaction. For example, if we want to test an egg, we will try with the yolk which has less allergen. We will try with 1 g of yolk or 1 drop of milk, concerning wheat we'll try 2 cm of Udon to see if there are any allergic reactions and if not, we'll increase the quantity gradually. This test will be different depending on the person.
By proceeding with the oral food challenge test, we can find food which is not necessary to avoid. And if the food contains allergens, we can check the safe quantity we could eat. As some allergies could go disappear or could be less in time, it is important to do this test regularly. In this way we can reduce the food avoidance. This test has to be done by a doctor or a medical institution specialized in allergic reactions. Do not do this test by yourself.

The relation between atopic dermatitis (eczema) and the allergens.

We use to combine "the food allergy" with "the atopic dermatitis". In the past, there was a theory that "the atopic dermatitis was caused by the food allergy". But this case is quite rare. Nowadays, we say that "the food allergy is caused by the atopic dermatitis". A small quantity of food inside our daily meals enters in the body via the skin, but when we have an atopic dermatitis, our skin is inflamed, and immune cells are very reactive. In this case, there is a risk to have an allergic reaction. We think that when we eat the allergen after this, an allergic reaction occurs.

Encourage skin care if you have a food allergies.

In case if the atopic dermatitis appearance, occurring with food allergies, the most effective way to curethis, is skin care with a moisture cream or steroids. If this is not sufficient, check the allergen and minimize food avoidance.
