A 2011 graduate of the Tokyo Zokei University Department of Graphic Design, Mariko studied animation during her undergraduate years. Her work, titled Utopian, was selected as a Principal Work for the archive of the NHK program Digista teens, which aired in 2010. The same title also garnered the 12th TBS DigiCon6 Encouragement Award, as well as other awards.

In the poster, I created an image of people from all over the world, happily gathered on the boughs of a tree drawn by children. People have infinite possibilities, as well as the ability to create. I imagined this ability expanding the individual world of each character.
