    The 50th Japan Prize received so many wonderful works. At this session, the preliminary and final jurors shed light on some of the inspiring works that were chosen as finalists.

Dr Hyunsook Chung is a former senior executive producer at EBS, Korea. Over a 30-year career at EBS, the ABU, and AIBD, she has specialised in children and youth programme development and international Asian co-productions.
As well as making numerous live shows, dramas, and documentaries, Hyunsook has served as EBS Head of International Relations, and as Director of the EBS International Documentary Festival. She has also been a jury member or judge at many international festivals including Japan Prize, Prix Jeunesse, Documenta Madrid, the ABU Prize, the AIBD Prize, and the BaKa Forum.
In 2004 Hyunsook initiated the first ABU children’s drama coproduction, and since then has executive-produced several award-winning coproductions – both drama and non-fiction - including “Baby on the Way”, “Future School”, “Family Asia” and most recently “Beasts of Asia”.

Svetlana Chernova is a producer, screenwriter, and animator from Kyrgyzstan, the finalist of the Japan Prize 2009 and the winner of the excellent Proposal Prize of the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan Prize, 2020. She has extensive 16 years of experience in the production of edutainment animation series for pre-school and primary school children for nationwide state media in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkey. Her mission is to create quality educational content based on her expertise in the psychology of children's development, diversity, and inclusion.

Martina Peštaj is the Head of Children’s and Youth Programmes at RTV Slovenija, where she has worked for number of years as a creator, editor, and scriptwriter. She is a selector for foreign animation and life-action series for children. As a Media Psychologist and TV expert she regularly collaborates with the Slovenian Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Education on various cultural and art programmes in the field of media education. She publishes articles and gives lectures about children, TV, film, and internet.

Cecilia is a documentary producer focusing on environment and social issues. Her documentaries have premiered in Cannes, Sundance and Venice and won awards such as the Prix Arte for Best European Documentary. Her latest feature film I am Greta won a Guldbagge for Best Documentary and was sold to over 60 countries. Her latest short The Answer to Everything premiered as a NYTimes Opinion Video. Nessen is currently producing Climate in Therapy, a documentary about climate scientists in therapy and Amazomania, an archival study of our current world’s relationship with indigenous cultures and territories.

After starting as a web designer, Taniwaki joined NHK in 2015 and now handles total program design from sets to graphics and costumes. Her projects in recent years have included total design for educational, welfare, and journalistic programs. She started planning and directing the short Wha-Wha-Wha-What’s Design?! features in 2019, and Wha-Wha-Wha-What’sit all about?! in 2022. Taniwaki is also closely engaged in NHK’s branding activities together with local stations and the human resources and environmental management departments. She won the Good Design Award for #BreastCancer Diary: Miki Yakata and Wha-Wha-Wha-What’s Design?! in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
