Fujiwara Kazuki
Director
Content Creators Center, NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation)Japan
Joined NHK in 2009. Has been involved in the current affairs program “Close-Up Gendai” and the NHK Special documentaries since 2016.
Fujiwara has been covering relations between Japan and the Korean Peninsula since his involvement in an NHK Special about North Korea in 2018.
Programs include an edition of “Close-Up Gendai” about the letters exchanged between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and their summit, and a two-part BS-1 Special documentary, which drew on top secret documents to shed light on the Japanese who fought in the Korean War.
Fujiwara has focused on the crisis in Ukraine since the Russian invasion. An edition of “Close-Up Gendai” was produced from the online interviews he conducted in March with people in war-torn Ukraine. Went to Ukraine in late March to focus on how its public broadcaster Suspilne was faring in its temporary facilities. Subsequently spent two months following the public broadcaster. This led to an NHK Special about the hardships facing reporters trying to cover the war.
Co-author of “AI vs Minshushugi (Artificial intelligence versus democracy)” and “Sato-umi Shihonshugi (Sato-umi capitalism)”, and author of “Chosen Senso wo Tatakatta Nihon-jin (The Japanese who fought in the Korean War)”.
