Moneeza Hashmi

President, Public Media Alliance

While her area of specialization lies in primary education, Moneeza Hashmi entered the world of television in 1974 as Programme Manager of Pakistan Television (PTV). Working to improve the image of women in Pakistan, making documentaries on development issues and heading various posts at PTV, she became the first female to head the Programme Division. In addition to her job responsibilities at PTV, she also headed the PTV-UNDP project titled “Portrayal of Women in Media” from 1999 to 2002. Retiring from PTV in 2004, Ms. Hashmi is currently serving her third term as President of the Public Media Alliance, the UK based, global association of public broadcasters. She is also General Manager International Relations of HUM TV, the largest private TV channel in Pakistan.
She was awarded the Special Prize at the 8th edition of Japan Prize in 1972, and joined the jury panel in 2014.
