JAPAN PRIZE 2016 Prize Winners

Excellent Proposal
< The National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan Prize >
Ski in the land of Buddha
Entering Organization Mehrgan Film Festival Secretariat
Country/Region Afghanistan
(Sevilay Bozdemir)
This proposal carries a strong purpose to change the negative image of Afghanistan by highlighting Bamiyan province, a rugged and poor part of the country that attracts foreign skiers, and by telling the story of Fatima, a girl who wants to become a skier in a country where few girls can participate in sports.
This 52-minute documentary wants to tell that skiing should not be only for boys and underline the success of young girls who learn to ski, as well as, showing what life is like in Bamiyan province.
(Soghra Shaikhzada)
I am so glad that I could represent my country by participating in 43rd Japan Prize and it is an honor to be among five final winners of this international contest. It was a great achievement and valuable experience for me and my colleagues in Mehregan Film Festival Secretariat and on the other hand, it imposes me more responsibility for doing better job in my profession.
By using these great experiences in my future plans, I hope I can meet the expectations of people in the best way. Thanks to the NHK and Japan Prize for giving me this opportunity to show a dynamic and a part of sustainable development of my country by using the lens of camera.
