We selected The Other Kids as the best work in the Youth category because it skillfully tells the story of how one little boy creates a "family" and finds hope through playing and loving soccer. The documentary is highly specific, as it shows the challenges faced by a team of Ugandan boys working to use soccer as a path out of poverty. But, it is also universal, as we all seek to develop our strengths and belong to a caring and supportive team. The remarkable cinematography immerses us in the boys' often difficult surroundings. It also documents soccer matches with great verve, cutting back-and-forth between the children and the world-renowned professionals they dream of becoming. This film presents us with a slice of Ugandan life today, and its citizens' hopes for the future. We were impressed by The Other Kids' heart, and how it shows that soccer is not just a game.

The JAPAN PRIZE 2016 NHK, with its impeccable organization, was an incredible and unforgettable experience for Salon Indien Films, as well as for the film itself. It’s been an absolute privilege to be able to connect with other professionals with similar ways of thinking, to get to know their work and share with each other our knowledge and different experiences. Achieving recognition in the educational field inspires us to bring our film to more schools over the world, and motivates us to spread our message further, so that it reaches the youngest of our generation. As I mentioned at the gala, cinema has - and must always have - the power to change the life of millions of children, and as creators, we must fully commit to this responsibility with the youth, and with the future of humankind.
