Mr. Jun Shioda

Executive Producer of Special Program Development Center,
NHK
Born in Tokyo in 1960. Entered NHK in 1983 upon graduating from the Tokyo University Department of Sociology. Many projects concerned with contemporary Japanese and Asian (notably Chinese and Korean) history. Awarded the Hoso Bunka Foundation Prize for the documentary, NHK Special: The Road to the Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal, and the Grand Prize of the Agency for Cultural Affairs National Arts Festival for NHK Special: Sino-Japanese War – Why Did the War Expand? (2006), which examined the process leading to Nanjing. Developed the Children Living in Asia documentary series, making use of journalists in various Asian countries to observe the lives of Asian children. An edition featuring the Muslim community on Mindanao in the Philippines, Asia in A Child’s Eyes: Yearning for Mother (2004) won the Granarolo at the Prix Italia. The 2000 Years of Japan and the Korean Peninsula series reviewing the two past two millennia of history in the region, broadcast for the 100th anniversary of the annexation of Korea, awarded the Minister of Education’s Arts Promotion Prize.
