The magnitude 9.0 earthquake that struck the coast of northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, created a massive tsunami that reached 39 m and claimed countless lives. This documentary by photographer Roar Christiansen follows the last 15 years of the life of Wenche, a drug addict and AIDS sufferer. Through hundreds of photographs and hours of video, Christiansen, who became close friends with Wenche over the course of filming, documents her childhood in a broken home, her battle with AIDS, her relationship with her partner, and the process of her slowly wasting away to death. Through a single camera, this work graphically and poignantly tells the story of Wenche, who wanted the film to be “a scare and a warning for those who are keen to try drugs.”
