A science program that uses elaborate scientific experiments to explore and explain the laws of nature. The goal is to show the viewer how fun science can be while using actual footage instead of computer graphics to clearly explain some of the more complex aspects. This episode looks into the question of how fast sound travels. Viewers first learn that everyone hears sound at the same time if they are all the same distance away from the source of that sound. They also learn that people farther away hear the sound after the people who are close to it. An experiment is then conducted using a line of 87 people holding flags in order to find out how quickly sound travels. With the help of a cymbal player, an opera singer, and an air horn, viewers learn not only how fast sound travels, but also that all sounds travel at the same speed.

I was thrilled at the honor of winning the prize among such outstanding works in the final selection. To film gigantic experiments without depending on CGI-the shooting location itself was one huge experiment. On the other hand, witnessing events never before seen was exciting beyond anything, and our programs are created in the hopes that children could share the experience. Science is often described as perplexing or tedious. We want to convey to children that difficult words are unnecessary and that experimenting with the mysterious using one’s own eyes and hands is the first step in science. That led to the Jury’s evaluation that “in Discover Science, you can discover science.”-a proud moment, indeed.

It has been always a big need to deal with science and a big challenge to put on an outstanding program in science for the 6-to-12-year-old age group. In Discover Science, you can discover science-in a very universal style of experiencing process which is given without a presenter or any special direction or structure.
It shows the importance of doing actual experiments with one’s own hands and eyes. With high esthetical frames, Discover Science carries out an important message-that science is something interesting and universal.
