What is JAPAN PRIZE?
JAPAN PRIZE International Educational Program Contest was established by NHK in 1965 with aims of contributing to the advancement of educational programs around the world and the promotion of international understanding and cooperation. It is widely known as a unique contest and receives many entries from around the world every year. The JAPAN PRIZE consists of a contest and Delegates' Forum.

The contest has three divisions: the Program, Web and Proposal Divisions. The Program Division targets programs with educational value, and there are four categories: Early Education, Youth Education, Adult Education, and Issues in Education. The Web Division was established in 2002 and targets educational websites associated with TV programs. The Proposal Division is the newest division established in 2003 with the aim of assisting producers from countries with limited means.

The Delegates' Forum offers delegate activities including screening and discussion sessions of entered programs. The Forum is open to everyone involved in media such as producers, educators, researchers, etc. Delegates from all around the world get together to exchange their opinions and ideas about the latest educational programs and to discuss issues about the future of educational media.

At the Awards Ceremony on the last day of the JAPAN PRIZE, all prizes are announced. The best productions and special prizes are awarded. Among the best programs of the Program Division, the Grand Prix Japan Prize is given to the winning producer.
