[About the Program and the Multimedia Content]
This website is related to an English teaching series aired on NHK Educational Channel for upper elementary students. Children access the site after watching the program, enjoy animation and games and thereby become familiar with English expressions. The site also has a Teacher's Page that offers support to teachers who are uneasy about teaching English by introducing instructional ideas and actual classes. Translation of the program contents and a transmission schedule are also included.
[Jury Comments]
A wide variety of both instructional and entertaining contents are provided on the website for Japanese teachers and students who are not proficient in English. The site will play a leading role in the English education at elementary schools in Japan which is to begin in 2002. It also gives practical information for children as well as teachers who will be engaged in teaching English. Children can enjoy it at home with their parents. In addition, a database was developed to provide user reactions as feedback to material development professionals. The jury praised these comprehensive activities that meet the various needs of users.
