[Contents]
The program looks at patterns in nature in the shapes of flowers and honeycomb and explores how primitive societies studied these patterns to develop the concept of counting and then the use of patterns in art and architecture. These concepts are illustrated with historically progressive examples such as early cave paintings, archaeological sites, artifacts, architecture and applications of patterns in the works of some modern artists, and finally the shapes of molecules. Interviews, CGs and location and studio shots give the program a lively pace.
[Jury Comments]
Demonstrating mathematics in art, this program takes an unusual, interdisciplinary approach to a core curriculum subject. It changes and broadens the viewer's perception of both mathematics and art and its strong aesthetic quality provides teachers with useful visual material, as well as inspirational concepts.
