Outsmarting the Sun

Entered by Copeland Wilson & Associates Ltd. (CWA:New Zealand)
Category: Primary Education
Duration: 6 min. 4 sec.
This is a short program which warns children of the dangers of direct sunshine in summer and tells them how to protect themselves for the prevention of skin cancer. The target audience is eight to twelve year olds.

We cannot live without the sun, however, we are apt to pay little attention to its danger. Through songs and performances by elementary school children as well as animation and computer graphics, the program maintains a high interest level and presents convincing arguments for sun protection.Ultraviolet rays coming through holes in the ozone layer can burn our skin, causing cancer and even death. So how can we protect ourselves? The program cautions children to wear hats, protective clothing and sunscreen outdoors, so as not to get burned.

"The target audience should find the words, lyrics and rhythms familiar to them. The program delivers its message about the importance of sun-protection in a fun way" were comments of praise from the jury.
