Letters to the A-Bomb Dome – Words of Peace for Hiroshima JAPANESE

The NHK Hiroshima Branch and Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum have joined hands to implement a special call for people to send their peace messages to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial in conjunction with the forthcoming From Hiroshima to Hiroshima – The Town Seen from the Dome exhibition, which has been organized to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Viewers are being invited to send in heart-felt messages on a postcard bearing the word "Peace". All postcards will first be delivered to a temporary mailbox set up for 65 days on the northern side of the A-Bomb Dome. They will then be displayed at the special exhibition in the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. The messages will also be posted on the NHK Hiroshima Branch website.

How to contribute your peace message

Please write the word "Peace" and your thoughts and wishes for peace on a postcard and send it to us.

  • The message may be in any language with the design and script size of your choice. The postcard can be used either vertically or horizontally.
  • All messages accepted will be exhibited at the venue of From Hiroshima to Hiroshima – The Town Seen from the Dome exhibition at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum. They will also be posted on the website of NHK Hiroshima Branch etc.

All contributors are requested to abide by the following guidelines. (Sending of a postcard will be taken to constitute your consent to these conditions.)

* 15 Sarugaku-cho, Hiroshima City was the address of the Hiroshima Prefecture Industrial Promotion Hall that became the A-bomb Dome. The address is extant only during the period of this project.

(The mailbox will be removed overnight.)

Guidelines

1, Only contributions from persons who adhere to the following guidelines will be accepted.
2, All works must be unpublished. Contributors shall establish in advance that no part of their contribution violates the copyrights or other statutory rights, or infringes on the good name or privacy, of any third party. In the event that a work sent in and exhibited does infringe on any third party in such a manner, the contributor shall be held entirely responsible.
3, The works sent in may be used not only at the exhibition venue and on the NHK website but also in various advertising and broadcasting media, ranging from printed materials such as publicity flyers for this project to the Internet and public relations broadcasts and events.
4, The copyright for the works sent in shall belong to each contributor but NHK is entitled to use the works in the aforementioned media in Guideline 3 above for a period of one year from July, 2010 to the end of August, 2011. Please understand that the individual contributors will not be named when their works are used.
5, The postcards will be placed in a mailbox made of transparent material.
6, When on public display at the exhibition venue or on the NHK website etc., only the rear of the postcard shall be shown.
7, Personal data of the applicants shall not be used for any purposes other than this project.
8, Works deemed inappropriate in terms of public decency etc. or incompatibility with the aims of this project shall not be used.
9, The organizers will not bear any responsibility for any problems that arise in the mail.
10, No works shall be returned to the contributors.
