なぜ日本に？
きっかけは一枚の写真でした。
私がまだ小学生だった頃、下校途中の私を日本人写真家の松田さんが旅行中に偶然撮影しました。その写真は、松田さんの友人である野坂さんの手に渡り、ブータンミュージアムのポスターとして使用されることになりました。その後、野坂さんが夫婦でブータンを訪れた際に、「この写真の少女を探しています。」と王様の秘書に相談して、写真の少女の捜索がはじまりました。私はその時、首都の大学に通っており、写真のことも全く覚えていませんでした。突然、王様の秘書から電話があり、「あなたを探している日本人がいます。今夜、会えませんか？」と言われた時は、何かの冗談だと思いました。そして、その日の夜の晩餐会に招待され、初めて野坂さんに会いました。まるで、映画の物語のような出来事で、とても感動したのを覚えています。野坂さんから「日本に旅行に来ませんか？」と招待を受けたとき、私は喜んでその招待を受けました。
そして、日本の福井へ1ヶ月の旅行に出かけました。それは私にとっての初めての一人旅、初めての海外旅行でした。初めて飛行機に乗り、日本に着く頃には、ワクワクするよりも、とても不安になりました。空港に到着して野坂夫妻の顔を見つけた時は、とても安心したのを覚えています。空港から福井に向かう列車の中で、野坂夫妻の呼び方に戸惑っていたとき、「お父さんとお母さんでいいですよ。」と言われ、その時から二人は私の第二の両親というべき存在になりました。福井では、毎日が新しい体験の連続でした。
水族館を訪れて初めて海の生き物を見たり、テレビのインタビューを受けたり、毎日がとても新鮮でした。中でも、感動したのは私の写真を撮影した松田さんに会えたことです。松田さんには本当に感謝しています。松田さんが撮った写真のおかげで、野坂夫妻と出会い、福井に来ることができたのですから。楽しい時間はあっという間に過ぎました。福井を去るときはとても感傷的になり、野坂夫妻との再会を約束して、ブータンに帰りました。
Why did I come to Japan?
It all started with a single photo.
When I was still in elementary school, Mr.Matta, a Japanese photographer traveling through Bhutan, took a photo of me by chance as I was on my way home from school. The photo was passed on to his friend Mr. Nosaka and was used as a poster for the Bhutan Museum. Later when Mr. Nosaka and his wife visited Bhutan, they told the King’s secretary that they were looking for the girl in the photo and the search for her began. I was attending a university in the capital city at that time and had forgotten all about the photo. When the King’s secretary phoned me out of the blue and said, “There are Japanese looking for you. Could we get together tonight?” I thought it was a joke. That evening, I was invited to a banquet, and met Mr. Nosaka for the first time. It was like a story in a movie, and I remember how moved I was. When Mr. Nosaka asked me whether I would like to travel to Japan, I accepted the invitation gladly.
Then I made a month-long trip to Fukui Prefecture in Japan. It was my first trip on my own, and my first overseas trip as well. I boarded an airplane for the first time and by the time it arrived in Japan, I felt quite anxious rather than excited. I remember how relieved I felt when I saw Mr. and Mrs. Nosaka after I arrived at the airport terminal. When I was feeling unsure how to call them in the train traveling to Fukui from the airport, they said, “You can call us father and mother.” Since then, they have been like my second set of parents.
In Fukui, every day was filled with new experiences. I visited the aquarium and saw sea life for the first time and was interviewed on television. Daily experiences were all eye-opening. In particular, I was deeply touched when I met Mr. Matta who took my photo. I am truly thankful to him. After all, I was able to meet Mr. and Mrs. Nosaka and come to Fukui thanks to his photo. My fun-filled days went by quickly. I became very sentimental when leaving Fukui and promised the Nosakas that we will meet again and returned to Bhutan.
なぜ福井に？
そして、再会の時は、すぐにやってきました。大学卒業後の進路に迷っていたとき、野坂さんに相談したら、「福井に来て働いてみませんか？」と就職先を紹介して頂きました。家族に相談すると「野坂さんのところなら安心して送り出せる。」と話はすぐに決まり、再び福井に来て、働くことになりました。福井での仕事は、海外からの旅行客の案内やブータンミュージアムに併設する喫茶店のお手伝いです。旅行客と日本について話したり、喫茶店で生演奏を聴いたりして仕事をするのは、とても楽しいです。休みの日は、お寺に行って祈りを捧げたり、お経を読んだりします。ブータンの人は「生きとし生けるものが幸せでありますように。」と祈ります。みんなが幸せになれば、自分も幸せになれると信じているからです。現在は、新型コロナウィルスの影響で、旅行者が日本に来ることができない状況が続いていますが、再び海外から旅行客を迎えることができるのを心待ちにしています。将来の夢は、ブータンに帰って旅行会社を立ち上げることです。日本にはブータンに興味を持ってくれる人がたくさんいます。是非ブータンに来て貰って、自然と伝統文化を心から大切にするブータンの人々の生活をその目で見て欲しいです。
Why Fukui?
We were reunited quite soon. When I could not decide on my career path after graduating from university and consulted Mr. Nosaka, he asked me whether I would like to come and work in Fukui. He found a place where I could work. I talked with my family who said they could send me off with ease if the Nosakas were to be my guardians. The matter was settled quickly, and I returned to Fukui to work. In Fukui, my job is to show around foreign tourists and help out at a café attached to the Bhutan Museum. I really enjoy talking about Japan with the tourists and work at the cafe while listening to live music. On my days off, I go to the temple to offer my prayers or read the Buddhist scriptures. The people of Bhutan pray “for the happiness of all living creatures” since they believe that they themselves will be happy if everyone is happy. Although foreign tourists are still unable to visit Japan due to COVID-19, I look forward to the day when we can welcome them again. My dream for the future is to return to Bhutan and establish a travel agency. In Japan, there are many people who are interested in Bhutan. I really want them to visit Bhutan and see for themselves the lives of the Bhutanese who sincerely cherish nature and traditional cultures.
