Greenhouse Gas
Major contributor to global warming including Carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbon (HFCs), perfluorocarbon (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). Amongst them all, the greenhouse gas which most severely affects global warming is carbon dioxide.
Since the industrial revolution of the 1700s, human beings have continued to burn such fossil fuels as petroleum and coal on a massive scale resulting in the atmospheric release of carbon dioxide. Before industrial emissions begun, atmospheric CO2 levels were about 280 ppm by volume whereas now it is rising at a rapid pace exceeding 370 ppm.
Assessment of Antarctic ice cores showing the transition of carbon dioxide concentrations since the dawn of humanity up until today had never reached 300 ppm in the past. This should explain how abnormally-elevated the scale is.
