・The Development of Various IP Systems for News Program Services at NHK [ BroadcastAsia2006 ]
NHK developed various equipment and devices incorporating IP technologies. These are used in live broadcasting and transmission of news materials for emergency newscasts in Japan and overseas. This enables us to minimize the cost of transmission lines and simplify the construction of the systems by using commercially available devices and appliances.
・Pseudo No-Delay HDTV Transmission System Using A 60GHz Band For The Torino Olympic Games [IBC2006]
NHK developed a 60GHz-band transmission system for the transmission of uncompressed HDTV signals at the Winter Olympic Games in Turin (2006). The system was applied to the rail camera for speed skating and transmitted HDTV signals without delay along more than half of the race track. This pseudo no-delay system permitted live switching between the rail camera and other cable cameras and helped to produce very high quality and richly entertaining international content.
・Development and Expansion of Helicopter HDTV Contribution System [ABU2006]
NHK maintains helicopters at eleven locations around Japan for aerial news coverage of emergencies such as earthquakes. In order to equip helicopters with HDTV video systems, NHK needed to reduce the power consumption, size and weight of the equipment. Each challenge was successfully addressed, making it possible for all NHK helicopters to have HDTV video systems.
・Luneberg Lens Antenna System for HDTV Transmission [IBC2005]
Developed by NHK, this hemispherical Luneberg lens antenna system is intended for HDTV transmission via communication satellite. Using molded, layered foam materials of different relative dielectric constants and a flat reflector placed on the base, the system performs well when mounted on a small SNG van at the site of a breaking news story, for example.
・HDTV Digital Wireless Camera System [IBC2004]
Developed by NHK, this handheld HDTV digital wireless camera system expands the role of HDTV in news and sports broadcasts. The system is designed to transmit live HDTV signals to a receiver up to 500 meters away in a line-of-sight link. It features an integrated MPEG-2 encoder with a 16/32/64QAM-OFDM modulator in the 7GHz band.
