The tide of digital broadcasting is sweeping the world. Digital terrestrial broadcasting premiered in the UK in 1998. Today, more than 20 nations including the US, Australia, Germany, France, Italy and South Korea have digital broadcasting. Brazil plans to begin digital terrestrial broadcasting using Japan's ISDB-T standard.

With the advent of digital broadcasting, Europe, the US and South Korea are now broadcasting in HDTV, expanding their services to take adcantage of the superior picture quality it offers.
