Mobile

Digital terrestrial broadcasting also enables One-Seg broadcasting for mobile terminals. Japan's digital terrestrial broadcasting standard ISDB-T uses 12 of the 13 segments in each channel to provide service for home viewers and one segment (hence the name One-Seg) to serve mobile viewing platforms, all combined efficiently into one channel.

Using One-Seg, video and audio distortion is minimized even while in motion. Viewers can enjoy a sharp TV picture any time, anywhere.

One-Seg supports data broadcasting, too. Data broadcasting provides news, weather information, and even program-related information integrated with the mobile terminal's telecommunications functions.

Because people can carry One-Seg mobile devices with them wherever they go, mobile data broadcasting really comes into its own when disaster strikes. NHK can use One-Seg data broadcasting to send emergency alerts in the event of a large-scale disaster such as a typhoon.
